However, deep in his heart, Solihin realizes that worldly fame provides no guarantees. His heart feels empty and diminished because he does not know how to read the Quran. Solihin is torn between popularity and religious obligations. He is ashamed to learn to recite the Quran because he fears his popularity will be damaged.
