The story
What it's about
Angel Beats takes place in the afterlife and focuses on Otonashi, a boy who lost his memories of his life after dying. He is enrolled into the afterlife school and meets a girl named Yuri who invites him to join the Afterlife Battlefront — an organization she leads which fights against God. The Battlefront fight against the student council president Angel, a girl with supernatural powers.

7.1IMDbAngel Beats! is set in a mysterious afterlife high school, where deceased teenagers are sent to come to terms with their regrets and unfulfilled desires from life. The world appears as a typical Japanese school, but it’s a liminal space between life and death. The story primarily follows Otonashi Yuzuru, who wakes up in this afterlife with no memory of his life. He soon encounters a group called the Afterlife Battlefront (SSS), which fights against the student council president Tenshi (Angel), whom they believe represents a cruel system controlling their fates.

Now that Naoi has seemingly joined Battlefront, Yui persuades Otonashi to let his powers of hypnosis help him recover his memories. But Otonashi may not be ready to remember such a tragic, painful past. But there are other issues at hand for the group—such as banding together to capture the mysterious creature from a nearby river known only as the Monster Stream.

Set between episodes four and five, Yuri comes up with 'Operation High Tension Syndrome', encouraging the other members to behave as wildly as possible, so they would appear to be enjoying school without disappearing.
